Smoky Blaze Put Down In Garfield

GARFIELD, N.J. -- A firefighter hurt his foot and another sustained an undetermined minor injury n a smoky early-morning fire in Garfield that severely damaged two buildings, damaged a third and displaced more than a dozen people Sunday morning.

Firefighters removed a special needs child after the blaze broke out around 8:40 a.m. at Jewell and Market streets in an apartment over a convenience store. The building next door is also an apartment over a business.

Responders included firefighters and EMS from Garfield, Elmwood Park, Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook, Teaneck and Wallington. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification was collecting evidence.
