WAYNE, N.J. -- Two Philadelphia men who told police they didn't know what they were doing in Wayne were carrying several bags of pot and $12,000 in suspected drug money, authorities said.

Officers Mark Ciavirella and James Monaghan were on an afternoon patrol of the northbound Route 23 business corridor when they spotted the pair's 2003 Honda Odyssey in the center lane of the highway with equipment violations, then stopped it in the parking lot of the Packanack Lake Shopping Center. Capt. Laurence Martin said.

The officers immediately smelled pot and ordered both men out, he said.

Neither the driver, Anthony Colon, 41, nor passenger, Darit Santiago-Torres, 39, were sure where they were "or why they were in Wayne," Martin said.

A search turned up four clear zip-locking bags of marijuana each labeled in red ink: AFGHANIMAL, GDW, LAG, and VUV, the captain said.

A smaller bag of pot also was found, along with the cash, he said.

Santiago-Torres and Colon were processed on drug charges and released pending a hearing. Colon also received a trio of traffic summonses -- one for having an obstructed view, another for having an unclear license plate and a third for having drugs in a motor vehicle, the captain said.
