NJ State Police boosts protection in wake of Osama bin Laden’s death

Although there have been no specific threats since Osama bin Laden’s death was announced, New Jersey State Police have boosted the numbers of uniformed officers at some locations, including transportation hubs, said the agency’s superintendent, Col. Rick Fuentes.

“The death of Bin Laden does not mean the death of terrorism,” Fuentes said. “Though the nation feels a sense of victory and justice, everyone in the law enforcement and intelligence community remains vigilant for terrorist retaliatory acts. The public should maintain the same attitude.”

State Police, in partnership with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, this morning reached out to Islamic, Jewish and Christian groups “with which we have close ties to encourage the continued sharing of information,” Fuentes said.

“The strength of such partnerships and of our intelligence ties with agencies from the federal to the local levels defines our ability to protect our citizens.”
