Peter Joseph Galinis, 53, Lodi Resident

LODI, N.J. -- Peter Joseph Galinis, of Lodi, died on Saturday, March 18. He was 53.

Galinis earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Rutgers University, on the George H. Cook Campus, and he met his future wife there. He joined the ROTC and later served in the Army Reserves and reached the rank of first lieutenant. 

He was a facilities technician/splicer for Verizon for 29 years. He was a member of IBEW Local 827 and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield.

"Peter loved to laugh and enjoyed going to comedy shows," information from the funeral home noted. "His knowledge of cartoons, cars, military history and the space program was impressive."

He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas.

Galinis is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joann (Passador) Galinis; mother Elizabeth Galinis; sister Joanne Galinis; sister-in-law Maryann Correll; nieces and nephew Dana, Jamie, Meghan, Ryan and Lindsay; and father-in-law Carlo Passador. 

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Galinis and his brother, Paul Galinis.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., in Garfield. The funeral will be on Friday, arriving at the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church, 188 MacArthur Ave., in Garfield. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, in Lodi.
