EDISON, N.J. -- Edward Matyi, 79, died at his home, on Friday, Aug. 28.
He was the son of Andrew and Mary (Madochik) Matyi.
He was a lifelong resident of the historic "Clara Barton" section of Edison on Brower Avenue.
Matyi served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1955-57, and after returning to the states, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He was a member of the Edison Democratic Association and the American Legion No. 324 Clara Barton Post.
He was employed by the Edison Board of Education before retiring.
Matyi was very proud of his Hungarian heritage, enjoyed talking with his lifelong childhood friends, loved listening, singing and whistling to music, traveling, trips to Atlantic City, and eating his favorite Hungarian dishes home cooked by his wife and daughter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Katherine Ann Bower; two daughters, Dawn Matyi of Lakewood, Colo., and Roseann Ward and husband Leif Alan Ward of Edison.
