Teachers and students from the Helping Hand Club and the manga, anime and comic club sold superhero-inspired capes at the high school to raise money for cancer research.

The fundraiser gathered $1,263 for Sloan Kettering cancer research center, Helping Hand Club advisor Gabrielle Caldiero said.

Caldiero called it an awesome turnout.

Garfield High School staff also volunteered to shave their heads or beards to promote the fundraiser.

Justin Greene, a math teacher, said he would shave his beard at the $800 fundraising mark. The students were eager to see it happen, Greene said.
