LODI, N.J. -- A winning Lodi Board of Education candidate won't be able to take office because a criminal conviction showed up on his background check, according to northjersey.com.

Vincent Russo got the highest number of votes in the election with 1,838 and was supposed to be sworn in at Wednesday's reorganization meeting, according to northjersey.com.

A vacancy is now listed on the Lodi Board of Education's website and anyone interested in applying must submit information by Friday, according to northjersey.com.
