RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Two apartments in a Rutherford complex were gutted by fire Wednesday afternoon while the two below were damaged by water used to douse the flames, displacing four families.

Two dogs were rescued and no injuries were immediately reported in the 3:30 p.m. blaze at the Jackson Village complex on Wingra Avenue.

East Rutherford, Lyndhurst and Wallington firefighters joined their colleagues at the scene.
