Police Hunt Garfield Man In Home Arson Attempt

GARFIELD, N.J. -- Authorities were seeking the public's help finding an 18-year-old Garfield man who they said tried to set a local tenant's house on fire after he asked a group of noisy teens to quiet down or leave.

Four people were inside the Palisade Avenue home -- among them an infant -- when Shakyl Ivy shouted "This is my block!" and poured gasoline around the front door around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Ivy took off before igniting the gas, he said.

He was among several teenagers who had "gathered outside of the house next door and were being loud," the prosecutor said. "The tenant asked the boys to quiet down or move on from the area."

Ivy argued with the tenant, left then returned with the gasoline, he said.

Detectives obtained a fugitive warrant for Ivy -- who was out on $75,000 bail after being arrested late last month for a July robbery.

Molinelli asked that anyone who sees him or knows where to find Ivy call Garfield PD at (973) 478-8500 or the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential TIPS Line at (201) 226-5532.
