Officer David Delia saw both clouching over, reaching under the seats, in the parking lot outside the QuickChek on Route 46 just after 12:30 a.m. Monday, Lt. Robert Salerno said.

Delia ran the license plate after they got out and went inside the store, then called for backups, he said.

Officers Richard Cordero, Danyelle Blocker and Delia took the pair into custody when they emerged, the lieutenant said.

Driver Albert Acosta, 30, of Newark was ordered held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with receiving stolen property.

Harry Maldonado, 35, of Paterson was turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff's Department on a warrant, Salerno said.
