Garfield Firefighters Take Third In Annual Extrication Competition

GARFIELD, N.J.– Garfield firefighters finished a strong third out of 14 squads this weekend in the fourth annual Rutherford Rescue 5 Extrication Competition.

"[They] work very hard training and sharpening their skills and they proved that hard work pays off," the department said in a Facebook post. 

The teams use the necessary tools and equipment to remove two "patients" – in this case, dummies – from a vehicle. 

Franklin Lakes firefighters finished first and Ho-Ho-Kus second in Saturday's six-hour competition and Family Fun Day at the Meadows Office Complex on Route 17 in Rutherford.
