Bunkey Chirichello, 49, of Haledon, was charged with robbery by threat and ordered held on $75,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

The 5-foot-7-inch, 200-pound Chirichello, who has a criminal record dating back nearly two decades, was released from South Woods State Prison in Cumberland County on Nov. 16 after serving 16 months for theft convictions out of Passaic, records show.

Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale confirmed Wednesday night that Sgt. Kelly Hemming and Lt. Louis DeLuca spotted the stolen getaway car described in the Lodi police alert and took the driver into custody on Summer Street.

The robber fled the TD Bank on Main Street in the stolen vehicle around 4:50 p.m., a law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice.
