GARFIELD, N.J. — Michael D. Scalera, of Garfield, died Nov. 6. He was 62.
He was born in Paterson; he was raised in Clifton for 22 years, settling in Garfield 40 years ago. He was a HVAC technician with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, working at Newark Airport the past five years. He was a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield, where he served as an Eucharist Minister and a bingo volunteer and was a third-degree Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local 68 of West Caldwell and the United Association of NJ - Pipefitters Union - Local 274 of Ridgefield Park.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Dys); two sons, Benjamin and Daniel; mother, Clementina Scalera; brother, James Scalera and wife Laura; and sister, Diana Scalera and husband Michael Lux.
He was predeceased by his father, Carmen Scalera.
Visiting will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield. The funeral is Saturday, arriving at the funeral home at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, Garfield. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saddle Brook.
