LODI, N.J. – Mary Lorraine (Markham), of Lodi and formerly of Hasbrouck Heights, died Monday, Jan. 25. She was 83.
Born in Hoboken to the late Hugh and Mary Markham, she began her nursing career in Hoboken as a visiting nurse after graduating from St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She received a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University and a master’s degree in special education from Jersey City State College. Before retiring, she was the campus nurse and a special education teacher at Bergen County Vocational High School in Teterboro.
Throughout her career, she worked at several New Jersey hospitals, including Riverview, Hackensack and South Bergen. She also worked as a nurse at the juvenile detention center in Wayne and was a past member of the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Health.
She was a devout Catholic and a very generous woman who always cared about and helped the less fortunate. She regularly donated to the missions, veterans, the blind and her favorite charity, Covenant House.
She was the wife of the late Mario Ruggiero and former spouse of Ronald Todd; mother of Jane Todd, Cathy Brunetti and her husband, Pat, Margaret Todd, James Todd and Betsy Todd; stepmother of Stephen and his late wife, Joan, Margaret and her husband, Anthony, and William and his wife, Carrie; sister of Marilyn Schwing, Maureen Andretta and the late Hugh Markham; grandmother of Patrick and Nicholas Brunetti and his wife, Natalie, and Thomas, Michael and Steven Allegretta; and great-grandmother of Nicholas and Audrey Brunetti.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Costa Memorial Home, 170 Central Ave., Hasbrouck Heights. A funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the memorial home. A funeral liturgy will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, Hasbrouck Heights. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
