LODI, N.J. -- Lillian Rose Camillia (Swentzell) Scimeca, formerly of Lodi, died on Friday, March 10. She was 83.
Born in East Paterson, "She was a devout Catholic, talented artist and singer, and an avid gardener," information from the funeral home noted.
Scimeca was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lodi and St. John's Church in Marshall’s Creek, where she served in many capacities. She was also a member and at one time president of the Elks Women Auxiliary of Hasbrouck Heights.
She served in the Bergen County Girl Scouts as a leader and various district positions. She also sold Avon and held President’s Club status for many years.
Scimeca is survived by her brother, Walter and his wife Cathy, and her children, Virginia Interdonato, Carol Chasse and her husband Ed, Fred Jr. and his fiancée Sharon, Josephine Scimeca-Hawlik and her husband Steve, Ralph and his wife Ewa, Kathleen Trolli and her husband John, Lillian Namik and her husband Joe, Betty Ann, and Carl and his wife Michelle.
She is also survived by 47 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; in-laws Carl and Janet Scimeca, and Constance Scimeca; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Scimeca was preceded by her husband of 61 years, Fred Joseph Scimeca Sr.; parents Catherine (Leidenfrost) and Ralph Swentzell; brother Ralph; and brother-in-law Joseph Scimeca.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Santangelo Funeral Home, 300 Main St., in Lodi. A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Church.
