Jane Kolano Yowik, 92, Garfield Resident

GARFIELD, N.J. — Former Garfield resident Jane Kolano Yowik, died Friday, April 15. She was 92.

Born in Passaic, Yowik moved to Garfield as a teenager and lived there full time until 2002, when she began spending winters in Hudson, Fla., before moving there permanently.

Yowik graduated from Garfield High School, and received her Registered Nursing degree from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Elizabeth, N.J. She completed her nurses' training in the U.S. Navy during World War II. 

She was a nursing supervisor at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic, a school nurse for the Garfield Board of Education, and a doctor's office nurse for several physicians in Garfield until her retirement at age 78. 

Yowik was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Garfield, and was a past president of the English Rosary Society before moving to Hudson. 

Yowik was predeceased by her husband, Alexander J. Yowik. 

She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Kapusta and Stephanie Brozyna; children Sandra Thomasson, and her husband Robert, of Dewitt, Mich., and Valerie Mauriello, and her husband Anthony, of Ridgewood; grandchildren Tracy, Heather, and Dana, and five great-grandchildren.
