Jabiel Melendez, 37, Of Garfield

GARFIELD, N.J. -- Jabiel Melendez, of Garfield, died Monday, March 21. He was 37.

He was born and raised in Christiansted, St. Criox for 14 years, lived in Boston for 15 years and settled in Garfield for the last eight years.

He was a logistic manager for Azuma Foods in Easter Rutherford for six years and was self-employed as “D.J. Fry.” Also, he helped with the Garfield Little League on his son's team, Crystal Florist.

He is survived by his wife, Suzie Gonzalez-Melendez; five children, Donte Rembert, Jaida Gonzalez, Jordan Melendez, Gabriella Melendez, and Evelyn Melendez; his mother, Lucy Rivera; and is siblings, Ruben Melendez, Carlos Melendez, Andy Torres, Bruce Barton, and Mara Rivera.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Maya Valentina Melendez; and his father, Carlos Melendez.

Visiting will be Friday 7-9 p.m. with an 8:30 p.m. chapel service. Private Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorial gifts. The Melendez family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield.
