Esmeralda I. Gonzalez Martinez, 77, Garfield Resident

GARFIELD, N.J. – Esmeralda I. Gonzalez Martinez, of Garfield, died Sunday, Feb. 21. She was 77.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she came to the United States in 1968 and lived in Hackensack before moving to Garfield more than 30 years ago. She was a seamstress for Camlock Company in South Hackensack for the past 14 years. Previously, she worked for the Presto Lock Company in Garfield, and was a nurse in Ecuador before coming to America. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Paterson.

She was the wife of Jose Martinez; mother of Eduardo Saltos of Paterson, Gladys Saltos of Garfield, Monica Blum of Clifton, Sandra Saltos and her husband, Guillermo, of Garfield, Carmelina Campo of Garfield and the late Ellis Pallo; grandmother of Luis, Gio, Mariel, Bernadette, Junior, Lina, Jose, Michael, Vanessa, Diego, Joel, Jasmin; great-grandmother of Jenny, Ashley, Javi, Lexi, Javan, Jasleen, Xavier, Isiah, Mason, Peneplope, Ryan; great-great-grandmother of Joel; sister of Josephina Arizaca of Hackensack, Yolanda Gonzalez and Fanny Gonzalez, both of Ecuador, Sonia Lugo of Puerto Rico and the late Lasteria Arias; aunt of Maria and her sons Marcelo and Jerry, Martha, and her sons Christian and Byron, Patricia, her husband Mark, and their children Anthony and Tiffany, Diana, and her daughter, Denise, and Charles and his sons Charles and Jacob.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kamienski Funeral Home of Garfield, 207 Ray St., Garfield. A chapel service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
