Eleanor Popowich, 79, Of Garfield

GARFIELD, N.J. -- A lifelong resident of Garfield, Eleanor Popowich, died Aug. 11. She was 79. 

She was employed as a teacher for more than 30 years with the Garfield Board of Education - School #4. She also was a parishioner and past president of SS. Peter and Paul RO Cathedral in Passaic, where she taught Sunday School, was the PTA president, a member of the choir, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the Republican County Committee in Garfield. 

She was the mother of Dr. Donna Carrazzone; grandmother of P.J., Zachary, Paul, and Alexandria Natasha; and great-grandmother of Adrian. She also is the mother of Dr. John Popowich and his wife Patricia and grandson John Patrick.

Visiting hours will be from 1-3:30 and 5-8 p.m. Sunday with a Parastas at 7 p.m. at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield. The funeral is Monday, arriving at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. liturgy at SS. Peter and Paul RO Cathedral in Passaic. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul RO Cemetery in Saddle Brook. 

In lieu of flowers, the Popowich family will be accepting donations for the Popowich Memorial Scholarship Fund.
