Security in New York is increased, along with Los Angeles and Washington D.C. as officials grapple with a possible terror threat here and in other parts of the world, Fox News says.

President Barack Obama was informed of an overseas threat to the U.S. between the Christmas and New Year's holidays, and security at high-profile New Year's Eve events, including New York's Times Square, has been beefed up in response, according to Fox News.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said New York is well prepared. Officials in Turkey and Belgium said they thwarted terrorism plots on New Year's celebrations in the capitals of those countries, Fox News reports.
