GARFIELD, N.J. -- The election for the Garfield Board of Election is Tuesday, April 19 -- and five candidates have filed for the three seats that are up for grabs.

Richard Derrig, Elizabeth Gray and Gioacchino "Jack" Mazzola are incumbents aiming to keep their seats, and Everett Garnto and Frank Barber Jr. are trying to edge in, NorthJersey.com reports. Residents will also vote on the school budget, which will be presented at the council meeting on Monday, March 28.

State law now allows school board elections in November, to save on election costs, but Garfield is still old-school, keeping its April election, along with Cliffside Park, Fairview, Hackensack, Oakland and Palisades Park, NorthJersey.com reported.
