Urban planners and environmental experts are warning state officials to pay closer attention to industrial property owners along the upper New Jersey coast to make sure they are ready for the next massive storm, according to NJ Spotlight.

In a Dec. 8 article, those experts said the state has worked hard to prevent a repeat of the widespread damage caused by 2012's Hurricane Sandy, but has left the protection of industrial properties up to individual property owners.

Storms hitting industrial properties near the Passaic River pose a significant health risk to the public, those experts said in the story. While those property owners work to protect themselves, state officials should also be concerned about storms causing spills of diesel fuel, oil or sewage, NJ Spotlight reported.
