GARFIELD, N.J. -- For the first time in department history, the Bergen County Sheriff's Office will be participating in No-Shave November to help raise money for prostate cancer research.
"It took a litle convincing, but Sheriff [Michael] Saudino eventually went for it," Marcelo Hagopian, president of BCSO Local 134 told Daily Voice.
As a result, "Pardon Our Appearance" signs will be posted at the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack, where sheriff's officers handle security.
"I've never had a beard," said BCSO Officer David Poposki, a lifelong Garfield resident. "So I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what I'm going to look like.
"A lot of people are looking forward to my funny pictures."
Each officer is donating $100 and will ask others to at least match the amount once the union sets up a web page, Hagopian said.
"There are 430 members of the department -- routhly 300 or so who are men," he said. "So we're very hopeful about how much we can raise."
