Ridgefield Park Dad With Cancer Wants 'Normal Holiday Season' For Kids

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. — A Ridgefield Park father who was recently diagnosed with oral cancer is asking for donations to help buoy medical bills so he can give his three children a "normal holiday season."

Pedro Monteiro of Ridgefield Park was recently diagnosed with mouth cancer and is hoping that despite the medical bills, he will still be able to provide his kids with gifts this holiday season.

Pedro Monteiro, 35, had his tongue removed and reconstructed last month, and then had his jaw cut open from one side to the other to remove lymph nodes and muscles.

The surgery lasted 22 hours, and left him with thousands of dollars in medical bills. Sure, he's worried for his health, but Monteiro is also concerned that the financial burden will take away from the holiday spirit for his kids.

More than $3,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Monteiro as of Friday evening.

His wife works, but doesn't make enough to cover the rent, food, medical expenses and gifts for the kids, Monteiro said on the GoFundMe.
