The Y gave its community service award to Frank Maschio of Maschio’s Food Service and its corporate award to Brian Costello of Brimar Industries.

At the gala at the Venetian in Garfield, the Y presented the men with swords.

According to the Y, the swords “symbolize their strong character and their support of our cause and mission. Both remarkable men, with community service and corporate sponsorship as their peaceful weapon, they have made a difference in many lives.”

The Y called Maschio “dependable, and always there to do whatever is needed.” He was credited with having a farm-to-table program in Maschio’s Food Service school lunch and snacks, kicking off National Food Day events, lending his nutritionists to educate and his chefs to cook with and to donating entire BBQs for camp and food for community-wide 5k events.

The second awardee, Costello, has served the Y in various capacities, including being a board member, officer and chairman of committees, and his company helps the Y in various ways, like sponsorships and printing signs for events. “We honored him as a corporate partner because he makes the City of Garfield a better place to live, work and do business,” according to the Y.

“Many sponsors made the Gala an incredible event, and we thank all who helped us,” the Y said in a statement.
