Dariel Ramirez, who also goes by Deejs, was diagnosed with pinealoblastoma and remained in physical therapy in February, his father Allen said.

The family lived in Lodi for eight years and noticed a problem when Dariel started having headaches and falling asleep in school.

"He was always so active," Allen Ramirez said of his son, "always singing songs and taking a word and turns it into a song. He's a really, really nice kid that always was really loving."

Dariel had his first surgery in June 2015 and underwent treatments ever since.

His family started a GoFundMe online fundraiser to help pay for the treatments. The page, which raised more than $2,600 as of Wednesday night, helped the family seek all options available and make Dariel comfortable.

The Lodi Fire Department also helped cheer Dariel up. The fire department stopped at his house during the holidays so Santa could pay a personal visit to Dariel, his father said.

"They've been great," Allen Ramirez said of the local volunteers.
