Bogdan Sendetskyi, a graduate of Clifton High School, double-fractured his left ankle at 9 years old, and at 15 had surgery to lengthen his leg, which had shortened due to the injury, according to a GoFundMe page he created.

He wore an external fixator to help lengthen his leg, but it also increased his pain, he said.

“I still had hope I could manage the pain till the age of 40, so by then scientists will invent something for people with injuries like mine,” he wrote. “No luck. I’m only 28. And I can barely walk.”

Sendetskyi said he now has end stage ankle osteoarthritis and first stage foot arthritis, and has been researching ways “to stay on both feet without losing the limb.”

He found one in a special brace – the Exosym-IDEO brace -- but he said it is not covered by his insurance. He is raising funds to help cover the costs through his GoFundMe page.

As of Monday, he had raised nearly $6,000 of his $12,000 goal, according to the page.

“There are no words strong enough to express my appreciation for spreading the word and your donation,” he wrote. “Hopefully soon I will become active dad for my little angels and strong husband for my incredible wife.”
