MAHWAH, N.J. — A Mahwah athlete with cerebral palsy who recently completed her third triathlon wants people to know: Anyone can do it.

Chrissy Vita, 23, finished the Cohasset Triathlon in Massachusetts with her longtime friend from church, Terri Peri of Mahwah, in 2:05 on Sunday.

The pair started the race alongside Rick Hoyt of Team Hoyt , who has cerebral palsy, and his racing partner, Bryan Lyons. Dick Hoyt, Rick's father, was cheering from the sidelines.

"I was more excited than nervous," said Vita of her third race.

Vita, a junior coach for Girls on the Run's Heart and Sole program, completed the Iron Girl Sandy Hook twice, once in 2014 (2:16:04) and once in 2015 (2:11:18).

This weekend's triathlon was Vita's first time racing with men, wearing a wet suit and riding on the new tandem bike that she and Peri have been training on.

"I hope to do the best I can and give it my all," said Vita of future races. "And to beat my time."
