The free program is designed to help families with children ages 10-14 develop skills to help children with refusal skills, knowing boundaries, and to be substance free, organizers noted. There will also be parent workshops and interactive youth activities.

Strengthening Families is a collaboration between the Garfield YMCA and The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, a program of Children's Aid and Services.

There are seven weekly sessions beginning July 6 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Garfield YMCA (second floor), located at 70 Outwater Lane.

Attendees will also receive a free family dinner and a gift card after completion of the program.

Babysitting will be offered for children ages 2 and up.
