RAMSEY – A Ramsey personal trainer who specializes in working with clients with special needs is slated to appear on WPIX Wednesday.

Russ Van Ness – who owns Gifted Fitness in Ramsey – will appear on the 5 p.m. news broadcast on channel 11.

The North Haledon resident and Fair Lawn native trains children and adults with cerebral palsy. He also has clients on the autism spectrum, he told Daily Voice.

“No matter what our disability is, we all have the ability to exercise in some way shape and form,” he said.

To prove it, Van Ness started a social media campaign to raise awareness during March, national cerebral palsy awareness month. He is challenging people to perform 31 reps of any exercise, tag friends, and use the hashtag #sweatforCP.

Van Ness said he has ten years of experience working with people with special needs, and he trains both children and adults. Many of his clients come from Bergen and Passaic Counties, he said, but some come from up to an hour away.

“He keeps each session positive and is a great motivator,” one mother said about Van Ness. “Avi loves attending his Saturday workouts with Russ and we have already seen improvements in Avi's strength and ability to stand with support.”
