“Now is our chance to serve them,” Nadia Kotsev-Azzolino wrote on a GoFundMe campaign page created to help raise $15,000 to purchase a van for Garfield VFW Post 2867.
As of Tuesday evening, nearly $10,000 had been raised, according to the page.
With the help of the campaign, and a mud run that was held on Saturday, organizers hoped to raise enough funds to purchase an eight to ten passenger van “so that the disabled members can attend funerals, patriotic and community events, and doctor appointments,” Kotsev-Azzolino wrote.
“These veterans selflessly served their country and continue to serve their community. They sponsor toy drives, scholarships, support fellow veterans and Garfield residents in need, while also reaching out to our students as shining examples of good citizenship. Now is our chance to serve them,” she wrote.
