Garfield YMCA Multi-Cultural Night Returns

GARFIELD, N.J. -- The Garfield YMCA is inviting the public to celebrate its varied cultures, as it again brings back its Multi-Cultural Night, on Friday, May 27.

"Our annual event features performances and food from all over the world, representing our membership, children and communities that we serve," a press release notes.

  • Bring food from your culture -- "dessert please too." The Y will supply the plates and utensils.
  • You are welcomed to dress in traditional ethnic garb, donate a cultural piece to display, or perform a song or dance. "Performance must have ethnic roots," the press release notes. "We are not looking for pop culture -- that is for our talent show.
  • To attend for free, RSVP for your family at the Y or by calling, by May 20. Otherwise it's $5 at the door, if there is room the night of the event.
  • Performers must contact Marisa at 973-928-2970 or Nellie at 973-772-7450 by May 18.

The program starts at 6 p.m., at the Garfield Senior Center, 480 Midland Ave. Organizers note that attendees should arrive with food promptly at 6, since the first 45 minutes are for eating, and the performances start promptly at 7 p.m.
