GARFIELD, N.J. – Chicken marsala, alfredo ravioli, cheese steak and baked ziti all sound delicious on their own.
But what if you were to put each on top of pizza?
That is what happens at Pizza Mania in Garfield, and the results get rave reviews.
“You can basically put mostly anything on top of a pizza, as long as it is tasty,” said Gaetano Buttitta of Saddle Brook, who opened Pizza Mania in 2008, after operating a similar restaurant in Perth Amboy. He said he only uses the freshest, top-of-the-line ingredients.
Fan favorites include chicken francese pizza, chicken alfredo pizza, bruschetta pizza, sesame chicken pizza and taco pizza. Some of the more creative creations include Nutella pizza, sushi pizza and peanut butter and jelly pizza.
Buttitta said about 20 types of pizza regularly are available at his Midland Avenue restaurant, and another 10 or so rotate into the selection.
“I won’t create anything that I won’t eat,” he said.
Buttitta said his staff has a lot of fun coming up with new ideas. They have contests and friendly bets on whose creations will become favorites, he said.
“I personally feel it is a waste of time going to other places,” Robert Gilligan, a teacher at Garfield High School, said as he ate during a recent lunch break.
Gilligan often takes photos of his pizza and posts them online. They generate a lot of likes, he said. He said it is hard to pinpoint a favorite, but he enjoys the eggplant pizza, insalata pizza and stuffed pizza.
Adisa Feratovic of Garfield started frequenting the restaurant because of the different options, she said. She is now engaged to Buttitta and helps him with his business. All the choices mean, “you will never get bored,” she said.
Pizza Mania also has sandwiches, other dishes and homemade gelato – all of which can be delivered, along with its pizza. The shop delivers to Garfield, Lodi, Saddle Brook, Hackensack, Clifton, Fair Lawn, Elmwood Park, Hasbrouck Heights, Wood-Ridge, Passaic, Rutherford, East Rutherford and Wallington.
